Meet André Müller and Maíra Ferrari

Serving the Lord from Brazil for All of Latin America

Reverend André Luiz Müller, Global Lutheran Outreach (GLO) Regional Director for Latin America, has more than two decades of church and missionary service.

Born in Brazil (1981) and raised in Paraguay, he highlights the support of his faith and his family—his wife Maíra Ferrari Reis and their three children, Helena, Martín, and Francisco—in carrying out his responsibilities.

He earned his degree in Theology and History from the Lutheran University of Brazil after training at the Concordia seminaries in São Paulo and São Leopoldo. His pastoral work began at the Comunidade Evangélica Luterana São Paulo (CELSP) in Canoas, where, from 2005 to 2012, he led the growth of the Igara Chapel and also served as chaplain (2010 – 2012).

Between 2013 and 2026, he served as president of the Lutheran Church of Uruguay (ILU), expanding the institution from one to five congregations. During this period, he obtained a master’s degree in Theology from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, United States (2020).

In October 2025, André was appointed Regional Director of GLO for Latin America.

Since March 2026, he has combined this position with his pastoral ministry at CELSP in Curitiba, where he coordinates the first mission in Brazil with Spanish-language liturgical services tailored to Spanish-speaking immigrants.

On the other hand, Maíra began her journey in the Lutheran faith at the age of 16 in São Paulo (having been a practicing Catholic until then), driven by the influence of several pastors and her participation in the Concordia Seminary’s mixed choir. This period awakened her vocation for Bible School and early childhood education.

In 2002, she began a relationship with then-seminarian André. After graduating with a degree in Portuguese and English Language and Literature from Unisinos University and specializing in Early Childhood Education, they married in 2005 and served for seven years in Canoas, where their firstborn, Helena, was born in 2011.

In 2012, now in Uruguay, Maíra worked as an English teacher and actively collaborated in the Bible School, the women’s department, and the marriage ministry, in addition to supporting her husband’s work at various mission sites. In this country, the family grew with the birth of their sons, Martín and Francisco.

Her commitment to the mission was consolidated in 2014 when she joined the GLO board of directors.

Looking back on her story, Maíra expresses gratitude for her Christian identity and reaffirms her vocation of service through teaching and missionary support.
