Jim and Liisa Tino – Serving the Lord in Santiago, Chile!

Anniversary photo

Jim: October 4

Liisa: August 18

Our missionary “career” began in 1988 in Venezuela, where we served as missionaries for 13 years, planting churches and training church leaders.  While there, our four children were born and grew up as “bi-cultural kids”.  It was during those years that God opened our eyes and our hearts to the joys and challenges of serving the Lord as cross-cultural missionaries.

Later, Jim served as an Area  Director for missions with the LCMS, and as a church planter in Miramar, Florida. Liisa taught music and Spanish in the Lutheran elementary schools in the Miami area from 2001 – 2014. In 2010, Jim founded Global Lutheran Outreach, an organization that identifies, recruits, and trains people to serve as cross-cultural missionaries.

In June 2013, Jim accepted the invitation of the Lutheran Church of Chile to serve as a missionary to Santiago. After raising support for 1 year, they “deployed” to Santiago in October 2014. Santiago is a city of over 7 million people, and the goal is to plant two or more new Lutheran churches. They joined a church planting ministry that has been in progress since 2007, forming a team with Rev. Cristian and Ethel Rautenberg, missionaries from Argentina.

We believe that our years as urban missionaries in Venezuela have well-prepared us for this new challenge! At the same time, we venture out in faith, not knowing what lies ahead, but trusting that God knows us better than we know ourselves.

Please Pray for:

  • Faithful partners who will join us in prayer and sharing their talents and treasure to extend the Gospel in Chile in this “faith mission”.
  • The Lord’s guidance and blessing on our evangelistic efforts. We work closely with Lutheran Hour Ministries in Santiago, seeking creative ways to reach the lost with the Good News of Jesus!
  • The people of Chile who are hearing the Gospel for the first time – that faith would take root and grow in their hearts.
  • God’s power as we seek to catalysts for a worldwide Lutheran missionary movement through Global Lutheran Outreach, where Jim continues to serve as director.

I would like to join the monthly support group at $25 /mo. Let me know the best process for doing that.

      Hi Jackie!
Click the GIVE button on this page. You have the option to set up automatic monthly contributions on-line, or there is a link to a form on the same page that you can print off and mail in with a check.

Hello Jim! I don’t expect that you would remember me, but I used to belong to St. Lukes church in Golden when you were a Vicar there. I was back there recently visiting my son who is now a senior at the Colorado School of Mines (where does the time go?) and Pastor Hellmers mentioned what you were up to.
I don’t remember why, but I happened to ask Arthur Just if he knew you, and boy did he give me an earful!

The reason I recall you so well is that when you taught the bible class after service, you would whip out the Greek new testament and just start reading away. I was totally impressed, and honestly still am! I am studying Greek at Concordia, and am frequently lamenting that I didn’t do this at a bit younger age. The Greek prof (Dr. Nordling) tells us that older brains are not well-equipped to learn Greek, and hoo-boy is he ever right.

Dr. Just says that you get to Ft. Wayne on occasion. If you would drop me a line next time that happens, I’ll come sit with you at lunch in the cafeteria. looks like I’m going to be here for a while…..

Please give Lisa my regards. Would love to see pics of your kids someday.

    Happy New Year!

  4. ltino says:

Hey Isis! Jim & I have been meaning to let you know how much we appreciate your Thrivent dollars. It’s amazing how God uses so many different faithful Believers to accomplish His will! Hugs to the kids!

    Jim and Liisa,
Just know that members of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Weston, FL are praying for your safety and well being tonight. We are praying for God’s mercy, peace, and abundant love for you, as well as each individual affected by the earthquake. May the presence of the Holy Spirit guide and protect you all.

  6. Rev. James SAN AUNG says:

    Dear Pastor Jim & Liisa,

Greetings to you in the name of Jesus Christ from the land of Myanmar. I am indeed so impressed by your great passion for reaching out the gospel of Christ to the World through GLO ministries.

We will surely pray for this great ministry to be able to launch in Myanmar too in the near future. There are many ministry opportunities in Myanmar too. We give thanks to the Lord for the sacrificial life commitment of you and your wife for God’s missions today.

May the Lord bless your ministry always!

    In Christ,
    Pastor James
