Sharing God’s love in Ethiopia

Wondimu Mathewos Game was born in 7/7/1971, in  a remote area of Ethiopia, from a poorest-of-the-poor family background, but nevertheless from a background of pioneer Christian faith and strong Christian heritage. He is married to Tsigewengel Bekele Uddo and they have three daughters: Doxsa W. Mathewos, 14 years old; Hadassah W. Mathewos, 12 years old; and Naomi W. Mathewos, 9 years old.

His grandparents, both on the mother’s side and the father’s side, were church leaders in the regional level who were persecuted for the sake of the Gospel. They lived their life for the sake of the Gospel and passed the baton to his parents. His parents also struggled to keep their faith in the communist time and sacrificed a lot. Their devotion and commitment was exemplary for him, giving him the legacy to inherit and showing him the Christ who died and was raised for him. Thus, he acquired a Christian identity in his early age through baptism and grew up as a Christian child, nurtured to be a Christian through the discipleship programs.

Eventually, he became a youth leader and a coordinator of different committees in the local church at the town called Hawassa the capital city of the Southern Nations of Ethiopia. The leaders of the Hawassa local church discerned his calling and called him to the office of the Holy Ministry. After the Bible School training the church assigned him to plant the church in the other corner of the town. 

By the grace of God, he was delighted to plant the church. The name of the planted church is called Tabor Congregation. This congregation planted on Oct. 1996 with about 150 total members. Now this congregation is one of the fastest growing and mega congregation with about 13, 000 members, 5 pastor, 17 Evangelists and thousands of volunteer ministers. The congregation is exceptionally missional, in 25 years of ministry journey established 35 congregations, some of them among Muslim dominated areas, working the local mission and outreach in seven regions of Ethiopia, it has 35 outreach areas and 40 mission posts, and administering 69 evangelists and local missionaries. Now, this congregation sent international missionary with MYIMS and but totally funded by this local congregation. 

Wondimu is committed to stirring a passion for international missions in Africa so that more cross-border missionaries may be sent “from everywhere to everywhere”!
