Wheels for the Mission: A Vehicle for Arise Africa
I present to you a GLO Missionary project: $20,000 USD for a reliable vehicle to use as a GLO (Global Lutheran Outreach) missionary.

Rationale
The city we are living in is Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It is a large metropolitan center with high traffic and an under-developed public transport system.
Our present rental home is 7.5 KMs away from the children’s school. The EEMCY seminary, where I teach, is about 18 KMs from where we live. Managing our daily transportation without a personal vehicle is difficult.
Utilizing public transportation magnifies the time spent on the road. Utilizing “uber-like options” (“Ride”) is an ongoing expense that is unsustainable. A vehicle would cut the 5 hours we spend daily on the road to 2.5 and have a significant positive impact on our monthly budget.
How will this vehicle allow contribute to my GLO missionary work and support our family?
1) Transportation for my work as a professor at the EECMY seminary: (18 KMs far away from our rental house; which we chose because of its proximity to the children’s school)
- Will allow me to be spend more time as a professor, raising up the next generation of missionaries
- Enhances my ability to meet with church leaders around Addis Ababa and engage as a mouthpiece for EECMY mission work and share the vision for “Arise Africa.”
2) Greater opportunity to execute Arise Africa’s vision and travel to destinations within the city and other areas of Ethiopia where the support for Arise Africa needs to be raised.
- My relational support base is in the southern region of Ethiopia (300 KM distance)
- New connections need to be fostered all around Ethiopia.
3) Engaged for family use for school and work: saves hours of time which can be focused on care of our missionary family and my calling as a professor and missionary.
