The Otula family are from Kenya, Africa, where they have lived their whole lives. As a new believer, Amos was inspired by Jesus’ command “Go into all the world and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19). He believed God was calling him to go.

Amos earlier adopted Buddhism in school under Indian buddhist teachers. But God graciously used an evangelist of the Lutheran Church of Kenya to lead him to Christ! Baptised and catechised, he committed himself to prepare for ministry and graduated from Matongo Lutheran seminary (Kenya).

Amos married his beloved wife Evelyn, a devoted Catholic, while teaching at a Buddhist school. But after his conversion, Evelyn also joined the Lutheran church. She is a secondary school teacher with a bachelor’s degree in the Kiswahili language and History.

Prior to his diploma in theology, Amos earned a bachelor of information science degree and a post-graduate diploma in community health and development, and worked in various health and development organizations.

In these ways, God prepared Amos and Evelyn to serve as missionaries to South Sudanese refugees crowding into camps in northern Uganda. Their heart’s desire is to be used as God’s instruments to share the love of Christ, bringing life-giving relief to both soul and body. They are called and sent by the Lake Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya, partnering with the Lutheran Church of Uganda.

Amos and Evelyn are blessed with 3 beautiful daughters: Delphine, Dorice, and Marion.
