A Few Sundays in Carpentersville

This past Sunday we visited another of our local churches to chat and worship with their small congregation. Located in the small community of Carpentersville, Faith Lutheran Church continues to stand strong thru the changes of ‘a church’ of the 21st century. A few months ago we joined in a discipleship workshop and their core group was there as well. It didn’t take long for this wonderful church family to claim us as a part of their own for that time. We had just met them prior to this workshop but sitting with them thru the two day event was just what God wanted for all of us. Pastor Mark continues to shepherd this flock standing strong with them. Thank you to each person there who is praying and encouraging us on this return across the pond. IMG_2493

Beyond These Walls

Last week we somewhat started to revisit individuals and churches in the area who have walked with us these past two years as we settled into the area and acclimated to a new chapter here while continuing with God’s ministry in Cambodia. This wonderful lady we met early on and she has been become so well grounded in this ministry over these past months, strategically sending us to places and people that she already knew so that they too could hear about the peoples of Cambodia. Her passion and worldly mission mind along with encouragement and prayers have richly been blessed beyond the walls of the community. Thank so very much Laura for all that you have done and will continue to do. We can imagine even your experience and knowledge of your farm paradise could even be used in the future. God is so good !11047930_742757369164021_792848120448872952_o

A Visit to St. Peter’s

We visited a wonderful little country church with a big heart for missions. Thank you to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gilberts, IL for a warm welcome and the opportunity to share God’s ministry in Cambodia. Thank you also to Pastor Bruce for arranging this great weekend for us with this church body. We were so blessed with a full church by the time that the last service started.11884573_404663756399088_2100901003075345955_o

Cambodian Fact

The current Prime Minister, Hun Sen, has been in power for over 25 years. He has the distinction of being the longest non-royal ruler in all of Southeast Asia.

What do you think about that?

Phnom Penh

Cambodian Fact – the name Phnom Penh means Penh’s Hill and is named for Wat Phnom. The legend has it that in 1372, a wealthy widow, Lady Penh, found a Koki (Candlenut) tree floating down the Tonle Sap River. Inside the tree, Lady Penh found four bronze statues of Buddha and a stone statue of Vishnu, an important Hindu God. Lady Penh used her position and ordered the villagers to raise the height of the hill northeast of her house and used the wood from the Koki tree to build a temple to house the four Buddhas and a shelter for Vishnu slightly lower on the hill. She then named the temple Wat Phnom Daun Penh (The Temple Estate on the Hill of Grandmother Penh), which later shortened to Wat Phnom.
