Khmer Khronicle February 2019

The month of February has arrived and with it the evidence of a different weather pattern of hotter days a bit sooner than the norm. There is certainly more dust and dirt in the air already.

Cambodia, unlike our northern home, has only two seasons ~ wet rainy season and road construction. It is everywhere, it is challenging and dirty to say the least.

But ministry continues to move out and forward. It is busy, fruitful, exciting, challenging, tiring. God continues to be in our midst each and every day.

Reflection ~

Today I am reflecting and so so grateful for the ‘team’ of believers all around the world who have invested time, talents, treasures, and themselves in God’s ministry here in Siem Reap. Our team continues to grow, each one steadfast in knowing where they can slip in to be a part of sharing Jesus. You know who you are, and yes, so do we. We are oft times speechless and held in tears for the unannounced anything that slides into place.

This month we found a local physician only by necessity but God sent him our way at the perfect time. He has become a team member on the local level. He keeps asking why we are still married~ “And you still love her?” George gets to share ‘why’ to this man.

But one set of persons to share about in particular help our eldest daughter keep our abode while we are away. One has taken up the responsibility of parking her truck in our drive and to make a presence known in that way. Sophie her dog stands guard and on a ‘tone’ change gets immediate attention in her bark.

Just this morning I got a text from our other neighbor, a wonderful man who works many hours during this time of the year when the snow falls. His wife wrote to me “I am just sending a line that I get such a kick out of my George….every time it snows…he makes sure your driveway is cleaned before he cleans ours. Last week it snowed over 10 inches and he was out plowing for 16 hours…when he got home…yours was cleaned first.🙂

We are so so blessed !

Church on the ground ~

While words and photos can’t give perfect picture, I think these photos clearly give you a glimpse of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Snor. Gorgeous!

Of course the church tuk tuk has the perfect parking spot.

While the surrounding land shows the ongoing dry season, the moment you walk into this tiny church its stunning in its own stand. The main room worship area is about 18×25 with the back rooms probably the other half of the building proper.

Behind the ‘church’ room is a small blank room that easily could be a sleeping quarters. This leads out further into a washing area and squatty potty and a storage area.

One amenity not usually found is nestled behind the sleeping room and not at all visible unless shown to you is a tiny room housing a sink, large barrel of water for flushing and bathing, and a western toilet, of all things. I consider that surprise amenity a love ❤️ tribute to those who share time with this congregation.

We appreciate the sun shield out front so activities can be a bit shaded. Like the hygiene clinic done.

We even had a ‘nap’ time on the floor of the church in the hot afternoon between services.

Oh, there is electricity too, that power the fans to move the air. The windows are sheet medaled and barred shut.

Children to Love!

These are the children and young adults we have come to love and share our faith and lives. They are now healthy, clean, and cared for thanks to Pastor Samuel, his wife, Sophena, brother-in-law, Samreach and his wife Kothea and their influence into the local community. The apparent changes in the lives of each of these children and the trust they have grown to have in the church is not only filling their lives with Jesus, but is also growing the next generation of this new church. They are excited to come to church. They are happy and interested. They are now engaged and tithing

We are so privileged to be working with them and having the opportunity to share time and faith a half a world from where we came.  Only God could have orchestrated such a perfect life to be a part of. All glory to our Father.
