Revelation 7:2-17

2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, 3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants*n1 of our God on their foreheads.” 4 And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

5 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed, 12,000 from the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 from the tribe of Gad, 6 12,000 from the tribe of Asher, 12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh, 7 12,000 from the tribe of Simeon, 12,000 from the tribe of Levi, 12,000 from the tribe of Issachar, 8 12,000 from the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000 from the tribe of Joseph, 12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.

9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.”

13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?” 14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 “Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. 16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

Apocalipsis 7:2-17

2 Y vi otro ángel que subía de donde nace el sol, teniendo el sello del Dios viviente. Y clamó con gran voz a los cuatro ángeles, a los cuales era dado hacer daño a la tierra y al mar, 3 diciendo: No hagáis daño a la tierra, ni al mar, ni a los árboles, hasta que hayamos sellado a los siervos de nuestro Dios en sus frentes. 4 Y oí el número de los sellados; ciento cuarenta y cuatro mil sellados de todas las tribus de los hijos de Israel. 5 De la tribu de Judá, doce mil sellados. De la tribu de Rubén, doce mil sellados. De la tribu de Gad, doce mil sellados. 6 De la tribu de Aser, doce mil sellados. De la tribu de Neftalí, doce mil sellados. De la tribu de Benjamín, doce mil sellados. 9 Después de estas cosas miré, y he aquí una gran multitud, la cual ninguno podía contar, de todas las naciones y tribus y pueblos y lenguas, que estaban delante del trono y en la presencia del Cordero, vestidos de ropas blancas y con palmas en sus manos; 10 y aclamaban en alta voz, diciendo: Salvación a nuestro Dios que está sentado sobre el trono, y al Cordero. 11 Y todos los ángeles estaban en pie alrededor del trono, y de los ancianos y de los cuatro seres vivientes; y se postraron sobre sus rostros delante del trono, y adoraron a Dios, 12 diciendo: Amén: La alabanza y la gloria y la sabiduría y la acción de gracias y la honra y el poder y la fortaleza, sean a nuestro Dios por siempre jamás. Amén. 13 Y respondió uno de los ancianos, diciéndome: Estos que están vestidos de ropas blancas, ¿quiénes son, y de dónde han venido? 14 Y yo le dije: Señor, tú lo sabes. Y él me dijo: Éstos son los que han salido de gran tribulación, y han lavado sus ropas, y las han emblanquecido en la sangre del Cordero. 15 Por esto están delante del trono de Dios, y le sirven día y noche en su templo; y el que está sentado sobre el trono extenderá su tabernáculo sobre ellos. 16 No tendrán más hambre, ni sed; y el sol no caerá más sobre ellos, ni ningún calor; 17 porque el Cordero que está en medio del trono los pastoreará, y los guiará a fuentes vivas de aguas: Y Dios enjugará toda lágrima de los ojos de ellos.

Mark 6:14-29

14 And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him. 15 Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is the prophet, or as one of the prophets. 16 But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead. 17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her. 18 For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife. 19 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not: 20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly. 21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee; 22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said to the girl, Ask of me whatever you will,, and I will give it to you. 23 And he swore to her, Whatsoever you shall ask of me, I will give you, up to the half of my kingdom. 24 And she went forth, and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist. 25 And she came in straightway with haste to the king, and asked, saying, I will that you give me by and by on a platter the head of John the Baptist. 26 And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her. 27 And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, 28 And brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl: and she gave it to her mother. 29 And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

14 Y oyó el rey Herodes la fama de Jesús, porque su nombre se había hecho notorio, y dijo: Juan el Bautista ha resucitado de los muertos, y por eso milagros obran en él. 15 Otros decían: Es Elías. Y otros decían: Es un profeta, o alguno de los profetas. 16 Mas oyéndolo Herodes, dijo: Es Juan, al que yo decapité, él ha resucitado de los muertos. 17 Porque Herodes mismo había enviado y prendido a Juan, y le había atado en la cárcel a causa de Herodías, esposa de Felipe su hermano; pues se había casado con ella. 18 Porque Juan decía a Herodes: No te es lícito tener la esposa de tu hermano. 19 Y Herodías le aborrecía, y deseaba matarle, pero no podía; 20 porque Herodes temía a Juan, sabiendo que era varón justo y santo, y le guardaba; y cuando le oía, él hacía muchas cosas, y le oía de buena gana. 21 Pero viniendo un día oportuno, en que Herodes, en su cumpleaños, hizo una cena a sus príncipes y tribunos y a los principales de Galilea; 22 entrando la hija de Herodías, danzó, y agradó a Herodes y a los que estaban con él a la mesa; y el rey dijo a la damisela: Pídeme lo que quieras, y yo te lo daré. 23 Y le juró: Todo lo que me pidieres te daré, hasta la mitad de mi reino. 24 Y saliendo ella, dijo a su madre: ¿Qué pediré? Y ella dijo: La cabeza de Juan el Bautista. 25 Entonces ella entró apresuradamente ante el rey, y pidió, diciendo: Quiero que ahora mismo me des en un plato la cabeza de Juan el Bautista. 26 Y el rey se entristeció mucho, mas por causa del juramento y de los que estaban con él a la mesa, no quiso desecharla. 27 Y en seguida el rey envió a un verdugo, y mandó que fuese traída su cabeza; y el verdugo fue y le decapitó en la cárcel, 28 y trajo su cabeza en un plato, y la dio a la damisela, y la damisela la dio a su madre. 29 Y cuando oyeron esto sus discípulos, vinieron y tomaron el cuerpo y lo pusieron en un sepulcro.

2 Peter 2:11-20

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. 13 Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14 Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16 As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. 17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. 19 For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. 20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

2 Pedro 2:11-20

11 Amados, yo os ruego como a extranjeros y peregrinos, que os abstengáis de las concupiscencias carnales que batallan contra el alma; 12 manteniendo vuestra honesta manera de vivir entre los gentiles; para que, en lo que ellos murmuran de vosotros como de malhechores, al ver vuestras buenas obras, glorifiquen a Dios en el día de la visitación. 13 Sujetaos a toda ordenación humana por causa del Señor; ya sea al rey, como a superior, 14 ya a los gobernadores, como por Él enviados para castigo de los malhechores y alabanza de los que hacen bien. 15 Porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios; que haciendo el bien, hagáis callar la ignorancia de los hombres vanos. 16 Como libres, mas no usando la libertad para cobertura de malicia, sino como siervos de Dios. 17 Honrad a todos. Amad la hermandad. Temed a Dios. Honrad al rey. 18 Siervos, sujetaos con todo temor a vuestros amos; no solamente a los buenos y amables, sino también a los que son severos. 19 Porque esto es loable, si alguno a causa de la conciencia delante de Dios, sufre molestias padeciendo injustamente. 20 Porque ¿qué gloria es, si pecando vosotros sois abofeteados, y lo sufrís? Pero si haciendo bien sois afligidos, y lo sufrís, esto ciertamente es agradable delante de Dios.

Santiago y la espada de persecución

Y en el mismo tiempo el rey Herodes echó mano a algunos de la iglesia para maltratarlos. Y mató a espada a Jacobo, hermano de Juan. Hechos 12:1-2

En esta temporada peligrosa, los cristianos son tentados a dudar de su fe y de la confesión que han hecho acerca de Cristo. Pero, tenemos la promesa que nuestro Señor está con nosotros hasta al fin del tiempo y la victoria es suya y nuestra también. Damos gracias a Dios por el testimonio de los mártires de las generaciones pasados, porque sus sacrificios nos aseguran que las promesas de Dios son seguras y su Palabra no pasará.

Oh clemente Señor, tu siervo y apóstol Santiago fue el primero entre los doce en sufrir el martirio por el nombre de Jesucristo. Derrama sobre los líderes de tu iglesia el mismo espíritu de abnegación, para que estén dispuestos a renunciar a toda atracción falsa y pasajera y te sigan sólo a ti, que vives y reinas con el Padre y el Espíritu Santo, siempre un solo Dios, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.
